ONE LITTLE INDEPENDENT will issue a limited twelve-inch vinyl release of Crass in rehearsal at Dial House in 1982, preparing for the recording of Christ – The Album, in support of the 2021 Record Store Day UK.
Released on 17 July, all 450 copies of the album will be available for sale across the network of participating record stores. All profits from the release will be donated to the Refuge, a UK charity working against domestic violence.
Originally recorded in 1982 in Crass’ rehearsal studio at Dial House, Christ Alive documents the ofttimes gruelling process behind the making of a song. Given the exacting nature of Crass’ finished works, it’s illuminating to hear them battling out results that eventually gave them the structure to Christ the Album. After many hours spent in the studio, it was decided that Beethoven would be expertly weaved into the recordings. Call it Crasshoven if you like. This black vinyl pressing, limited to 450 units, will also see all profits donated to the Refuge, a UK charity working against domestic violence.
Lo-fi cassette recordings of Crass in rehearsal ahead of the studio session for Christ – The Album have been in circulation in punk circles for many years. It’s not clear if this is an alternative, and better quality, version of the same or similar sessions, or is in fact a viny pressing of that widely circulated recording.
