ALTERNATIVE AND HELLKRUSHER will be joined in Gateshead by five other bands for a fundraiser gig on 22 October to help support the upcoming exhibition celebrating the legacy of three 1980s DIY venues: The Garage (Newcastle), The Station (Gateshead) and The Bunker (Sunderland).

Also on the bill at The Black Bull pub will be a ‘mash-up’ of Total Chaos and Reptiles (playing a Total Chaos set), Left for Dead, Sin City Rockers, Born Equal and Force Fed Lies

“Please come along, support and boogie like it’s 1982,” the organisers urge.

The exhibition the gig is raising money for – Tyne & Wear Music/Youth Collectivism from the 1980s and beyond – will open at the Newcastle Contemporary Art venue (High Bridge Works, 31-39 High Bridge, Newcastle upon Tyne NE1 1EW) on 18 November 2023 and will run until 16 December 2023 (on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, from noon until 17:00).

The poster and T-shirts represent that period when the Garage and the Station were open and the first era of the SMC and Bunker gigs. Thanks to Kenny Sanger and the Bunker CIC The Bunker is celebrating its 40th anniversary at 29 Stockton Road and still putting on gigs.

The Bunker, the Garage and the Station were pivotal in shaping our youth, the different venues brought the Punk communities of Wearside and Tyneside closer together, great friendships were formed. Please support us and turn up [for the exhibition] in November!
