SCREENINGS OF THE new documentary on the artistry and politics of Crass are taking place in Manchester, Liverpool and Nottingham over the next few weeks.
Produced by Class and Culture Films, Crass: The Sound of Free Speech offers an “in-depth look at their art, music and ethos” and the hostile context in which the band were active.
The film revists the controversies and outrage that surrounded the one of band’s earliest musical and political statements: Reality Asylum.
Made with the blessing of Crass members, the film dives into 1970s Britain; the birth of punk and the formation of Crass, with an in-depth look at their art, music and ethos, plus its impact on those of us who were trying to make sense of a brutal hostile society we had no place in.
Celebratory, shocking and raw, this film is as close to the story of the period as you’re going to get.
