RUDIMENTARY PENI’S DISTINCTIVE 1995 concept album Pope Adrian 37th Psychristiatric is being reissued by Sealed Records, and available to purchase from today (6 September).
Originally recorded in 1992, the core of the album was written by singer-guitarist Nick Blinko whilst he was being held in a psychiatric facility under the terms of the Mental Health Act. Blinko was struggling with the delusion that he was in fact “Pope Adrian 37th”.
Described by one reviewer as a “morbid, mordant masterpiece”, and acclaimed by another for the way that its soundscape mixed “splintered guitars, sickeningly churning repetition and strangled screams”, Pope Adrian 37th Psychristiatric is a unparalled entry in the canon of Rudimentary Peni releases.
The Sealed Records reissue offers the album in five different formats: as a digital release; a limited edition white vinyl pressing; a black vinyl pressing; on CD; and on cassette tape. The vinyl versions include a lyric booklet an all versions include Blinko’s original sleeve art.
The digital version of Pope Adrian 37th Psychristiatric is available to buy now. Physical format versions are open for pre-order and will ship in early November 2024.
