GROW YOUR OWN Records have released a new compendium of works by The Apostles. There Can Be No Spectators brings together 25 tracks combining material from the band’s early seven-inch vinyl EPs with previously unreleased tracks “professionally remastered from
original studio desk recordings”.
The release is available as a limited edition double vinyl album (in red and black vinyl) complete with fold-out Crass-style poster sleeve and a 32-page compendium of Pigs For Slaughter fanzine. It’s also available as a limited release double CD (with the same extras) and as a digital stream and download.
“The recordings on this album should not be confused with the poor quality – and bizarrely speeded up – vinyl rips taken from scratchy old copies of the singles which have circulated online since the originals became highly collectable,” Grow Your Own explain.
“The band maintained close links with Crass and despite declining the offer of a single release on Crass Records, collaborated with the band again in the squatting and organisation of the legendary Zig-Zag Club concert where The Apostles performed alongside a roll-call of the best known anarcho punk acts – Flux of Pink Indians, Dirt, Amebix, Poison Girls, Conflict and many more. Crass also produced a miniature booklet which was enclosed with initial copies of The Apostles 3rd EP to show that: ‘despite political differences (both bands) can work together in solidarity’.”
