CHUMBAWAMBA AND PASSION Killers are amongst the artists from the original British anarcho-punk wave confirmed to be appearing at the 2025 Rebellion Festival.

Seven members of Chumbawamba will join an ‘in conversation’ panel at the Rebellion Literary Festival, while the three original members of Passion Killers will play two live sets – including one for the ‘almost acoustic’ stage. Danbert Nobacon will also be performing live.

One of the most influential anarcho-punk bands in history, a band who’s anthem subsequently became clickbait, dragging millions of unsuspecting listeners into their world of alternative politics and helped change the lives of thousands as a result.

From their humble beginnings in a Leeds squat, the band quickly gained a massive following thanks to their unique level of theatrics, positivity and carefully crafted songwriting in a scene otherwise ensconced in black, anger and nihilism. Signing to EMI in 1997 divided the audience into those who screamed “sell out” and to those who felt it was the ultimate act of subversion. As a result the band gained worldwide recognition and used the platform to make huge statements such as dousing John Prescott with water, calling out New Labour at the Brits and funding several strike workers and organisations with some of their new found earnings.

This is the first time that all 7 of the original core of the band have appeared together in 21 years, so it should be a very special reunion.

PASSION KILLERS – Confirmed for Rebellion 2025

Really excited for this! Hailing from Barnsley, South Yorkshire, Passion Killers were active in the early 1980s and were park of the burgeoning anarcho scene. All three members went on to be members of Chumbawamba. Their last gig was at Southfield Hotel in Middlesboro’ on 24th June 1984 (supporting Chumbawamba who they also did a split cassette with). So to say that 41 years later they’ll be playing Rebellion is a real privilege.
