Anarcho Punk Discussion Panel III – Rebellion Literary Festival 2025
Even more poignant with the terrible loss of Conflicts’ Colin Jerwood – we’re back to discuss the impact of this incredible genre of punk.
Hosted by Peter Jones and following the success and interest shown in our previous two Anarcho Punk discussion panels, we are pleased to announce a further panel for this year, which will feature:
Mark Wilson (the Mob) – a welcome return to Rebellion, The Mob were responsible for the song described as the greatest anti-war statement of the genre, ‘No Doves Fly Here’, and released the classic album ‘Let the Tribe Increase’. Mark is also involved with running Rockaway Park, described as a ‘subversive DIY cultural haven’ set in a disused quarry.
Steve Lake (Zounds) – returns for his second appearance participating in an Anarcho Punk discussion panel. The singer-guitarist is the ever-present and founding member of Zounds who bought us the enduring anthem ‘Can’t Cheat Karma’. Altogether now ‘one, two, three go, I’ve got an ego, it won’t let me go, what am I gonna do?’.
Andy ‘Marnie’ Burndon (Alternative/The System) – a founder member of The Bunker, a collective that has provided Sunderland with a music centre for over 40 years and been pivotal for the local anarcho scene. In addition to playing with Alternative and The System, Andy was also a member of Famous Imposters, who took their name from a Bram Stoker novel.
Andy Coward (The System) – not many bands can lay claim to having a gig cancelled due to interfering with a recording session for Songs of Praise, but this is what the System managed to achieve when sound-checking. Aside from attempting to derail a nation’s Sunday evening’s entertainment, they released a couple of Indie Chart hits with their classic ep’s ‘Warfare’ and ‘The System is Murder’.
